Year 3 and 4 Camp 2016
Wow what an amazing time we had on camp!
On the first day we got straight onto balancing on the low ropes - it wasn't as easy as it sounds but it was lots of fun!

We tackled the rock climbing wall too |
After lunch we got ourselves prepared for the FLYING FOX
![]() |
Some of us were a little nervous at first but all of the Room 6 campers did it
(Mrs O'Neil wasn't going to miss out on the fun either!!!)
Once wasn't enough we had to go again!
Day two and the sun was shining again (phew!) and we were off on a days trek through the beautiful bush.

We learned how to safely start a fire and how to put it out again |

![]() |
And we learned how to make a shelter in the bush |
Our last day on camp and we got to tackle the high ropes - boy were they HIGH!
![]() |
We worked as a team to keep the climbers safe |

But the ride down was fun! |

It was all too much for some of us! |
We had an amazing time and learned heaps. A big thank you to the fantastic staff at Makahika Outdoor Centre and to our parent help - we couldn't have done it without you!

Matariki Celebrations!
Room 6 celebrated Matariki, the Māori New Year, by reading myths and legends, creating amazing art where we were reaching for the stars and we created a class star.
We brainstormed words which we thought represented Room 6 - caring, proud, helpful, hardworking, readers, writers, scientists and artists.
(Oh and great teacher!!!)
As a final Matariki celebration the whole school took part in a hangi! Yum!
Very special thanks to Matua Dylan and the
senior school for organising and cooking the
delicious food for us!

Ronald McDonald's Visit
Ronald McDonald came to teach Team 1 about
road safety
He was very funny and we learned a lot about how to be safe on the footpath, crossing roads and travelling in cars.
Afterwards we wrote stories about his visit. Here are some snippets that Room 6 wrote ...
"On Tuesday Ronald McDonald came to Ohau School to teach us road safety and to make us laugh." By Kiesha
"He had shoes that were big and red. I wondered how does Ronald McDonald fit in those shoes? Does he have very big feet?" By Eilidh
"He was so funny because he had a wig on, yellow gloves and he had a nose like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." By Poppie
"He was funny because he was scared a lot at the start." By Huey
"He was funny because he had girl make-up on and his voice sounded weird." By Vatau
"He is a little bit silly because he lost his sock and the sock was on his back the whole time!" By Elissa
"The most important things for road safety is to Stop, Look and Listen." By Sarah
Great writing Room 6!

Welcome matua Dylan!
Room 6 was very lucky to have matua Dylan visit us to show us his taiaha and patu. He talked about what each were made of and gave us a demonstration of how they're used.
We all made our warrior faces!
We even wrote our own stories about Maori warriors with taiaha and patu!

Ohau School Market Day!
Room 6 worked hard to create two products for Market Day. We made cat boxes and balloon racers.
We worked through a technology unit to learn how to create our new products. We learned how to write a brief and a plan for our products. We also learned how to make prototypes of our products and then we tested them. This was the fun part - how fast could our balloon racers go!
Then the hard work started as we manufactured our products, marketed them and finally sold them at Market Day.
By the end of the night we had sold all of our cat boxes and only had two racers left! The money we raised will go towards school camps and a new playground.
