Matariki Celebrations!

Room 6 celebrated Matariki, the Māori New Year, by reading myths and legends, creating amazing art where we were reaching for the stars and we created a class star.

We brainstormed words which we thought represented Room 6 - caring, proud, helpful, hardworking, readers, writers, scientists and artists.
(Oh and great teacher!!!)

As a final Matariki celebration the whole school took part in a hangi!  Yum!

Very special thanks to Matua Dylan and the
senior school for organising and cooking the
delicious food for us!

Talofa Lava!

We were so lucky to have Karen (Vatau's mum) visit our classroom to teach us some Samoan words and songs for Samoan Language Week!
Thank you Karen!

Ronald McDonald's Visit
Ronald McDonald came to teach Team 1 about
road safety

He was very funny and we learned a lot about how to be safe on the footpath, crossing roads and travelling in cars.

Afterwards we wrote stories about his visit.  Here are some snippets that Room 6 wrote ...

"On Tuesday Ronald McDonald came to school to teach us about road safety so we can be safe and not get hit by a car." By Carter

"On Tuesday Ronald McDonald came to Ohau School to teach us road safety and to make us laugh." By Kiesha

"He had shoes that were big and red.  I wondered how does Ronald McDonald fit in those shoes?  Does he have very big feet?" By Eilidh

"He was so funny because he had a wig on, yellow gloves and he had a nose like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer."  By Poppie

"He was funny because he was scared a lot at the start." By Huey

"He was funny because he had girl make-up on and his voice sounded weird." By Vatau

"He is a little bit silly because he lost his sock and the sock was on his back the whole time!" By Elissa

"The most important things for road safety is to Stop, Look and Listen." By Sarah

Great writing Room 6!
